Here is the text of a report (apart from names of local runners) which has been sent to local newspapers.
A surprisingly large number of competitors entered the Allestree Park Orienteering Event last Sunday. Love may have been in the air but whether this was directed to the planner was a moot point. Rex Bleakman had a very difficult job planning eight courses which all had to avoid the golf courses, a task he successfully achieved. Rex's courses made full use of the remaining area. Careful navigation around the rhododendron clumps and marshes was required, poor navigation and vital minutes could be lost by the wrong route choice.
The challenge set, some very fast times were recorded. In the senior courses David Bray was first on the green course with Sue Russell from Heage second. Teenager Ben Beresford blew all comers away winning the blue course and Alistair Buckley from Sheffield won the longest course set, the brown course in a very impressive 49 min 12 s. It was however a return to old haunts for Alistair having lived in Allestree for many years before heading north over a decade ago.
The next event is at Markeaton Park on Saturday 20 March
closely follwowed by Crich Chase on 28 March.
